Keldon Johnson, Oak Hill, LSI 2017 - 14.2 C-RAM
Compared to some of the white-knuckle matchups of other years, Oak Hill’s 2017 route to the LSI final wasn’t the most exciting, winning games in the 50s, 40s, and 30s. The play on the court of Oak Hill, especially the brand of contagious energy with violent dunks and all-around stat-stuffing practiced by Keldon Johnson more than leveled out the excitement factor of the scoreboard. The final against Mater Dei would be a real test for the Warriors & Johnson showcased his versatility (18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 steal) in a 67-55 Oak Hill win. The performance netted Johnson the MVP award and gave Oak Hill its seventh LSI title - adding 2017 to the mantle of 1997, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2011 & 2015. In the 4 games, Johnson notched 24 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.8 steals per game while shooting 64% from the field. Oak Hill would finish the year with an impressive 44-2 record & Johnson claimed VA Gatorade POY, alongside McDonald’s, JBC & Hoop Summit nominations
Honorable Mention - Craig Smith, F, Fairfax (CA), LSI 2000: 21.3 points, 7 rebounds, .8 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks per game, 14.6 C-RAM
